Vale Norma Stead
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Norma Stead, a beloved member of the Kiama & Shellharbour District Tennis Association and an extraordinary figure in the Kiama community. Norma died this evening, aged 99.
Norma’s legacy in tennis is nothing short of monumental. A dedicated member of the Kiama Tennis Club since 1948, Norma’s devotion to the sport and the community extended well beyond the court. She served as the club’s Treasurer for an astounding 50 years and held the role of caretaker at the Kiama Tennis Club for over 70 years, nurturing the club with unwavering passion and commitment. Her contributions were recognised with numerous accolades, including Life Memberships from both the Kiama Tennis Club and the Kiama & Shellharbour District Tennis Association, as well as the Order of Australia in recognition of her exceptional service to the tennis community and beyond.
Norma’s achievements on the court were equally impressive. A multiple club and district champion, she claimed numerous titles in the Kiama & Shellharbour District Tennis Championships across several decades. A fierce competitor she was an inspiration to many, embodying the spirit of dedication, sportsmanship, and perseverance.
Her involvement in the community extended well beyond tennis. Norma was a member of the Kiama Evening View Club for over 50 years and a Life Member of the Kiama Knights Rugby League Club, where her contributions have had a lasting impact.
Norma Stead’s passing leaves a profound void in our hearts, but her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched through her selfless service and love for the sport. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate to know her.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Norma for her tireless and generous commitment to tennis and the broader Kiama community. She will be greatly missed, and will never be forgotten.
